When Bev joined the GREAT project in May, her mental health had been impacted by a negative experience within a previous role. She had lost her trust in others and needed family support to leave her house.
Bev was remotely introduced to Leah, her Employment Support Officer with the GREAT project. After chatting for a short while, Bev soon felt at ease. Leah was able to offer ways of helping Bev build her confidence back and begin developing positive professional relationships again.
You might be nervous at the start – but all you’ll get is someone who is there to help you and understand…. Leah is brilliant.” – Bev
With most of The GREAT project’s services being online, Bev was supported by Leah to access the sessions of interest to her. Initially, she worked with our GREAT Employment Coordinator Aarti to build her confidence through online sessions. She has since moved into our 4 day virtual course with Total Commitment Training provided by PDP, which supports participants in building confidence, encouraging teamwork and identifying skills.
Alongside her online development, Bev has also continued building her self-confidence out and about too. When it’s been safe and comfortable for her to do so, Bev has re-continued her voluntary role supporting court witnesses, and is attending other confidence-boosting opportunities external to the project too.
I am extremely proud of what Bev has achieved especially through this tough time where mental health issues have been heightened for many during lockdown. Bev has overcome so many of her barriers and is now using her experience and skills to help others, she really is an inspiration!” – Leah.
Through her rediscovery of skills, positive social engagement and her own experiences, Bev has since founded her own mental health group. Supporting others within a positive, local environment has given her a sense of purpose with her family and the project being immensely proud of her progress and achievements.
If I can make someone else feel better, then I’ve achieved something and made a difference.” – Bev
